X-Men-AdvanceB.jpg (8499 bytes)Reviewed by CJ & Will

Synopsis: In the not so distant future, mankind evolves, with a few rare individuals developing fantastic superhuman powers.

The new humans, these "mutants" face racism from ordinary humans.

Professor Charles Xavier (a mutant with powerful, mind-controlling telepathic powers) runs a "School for Talented Youngsters" - a safe haven for mutants, where they are taught how to harness and control their new powers.

In stark contrast, Professor X's arch enemy and childhood friend, Magneto (who has total magentic control over all metals) has decided that humanity will never accept mutants, believing that he and his "Brotherhood of Mutants" must pre-empt humanity's war against mutants.

Will Professor X's top students, his "X-Men" be able to stop Magneto? Watch the film and see!

O.k let me begin by saying that this movie has saved the super hero movie genre!

After the first Batman movie starring Jack Nicholson that franchise went down the drain. I was a bit skeptical about this movie at first, and had every right to be after movies like Batman Forever and the Shaquille O'Neil vehicle Steel (my soul shudders)!

As opening day approached I became more and more interested in what this movie could do — yes that's right, could do, I don't think it could do any worse than Clooney as Batman and Ahnold as Mr. Freeze!

And I was right; It was much much better.

I thought the back story of Magneto (Ian McKellen) was a smart way to tie in the discrimination that mutants were X-periencing in today's day and age.

Ian McKellen was the perfect choice to play a man twisted with anger, who refuses to be segregated from society because of his differences and has lost hope in humanity.

Patrick Stewart plays Dr. Charles Xavier the wheelchair-bound founder of a special academy in Westchester for mutants. He along with the aid of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Rogue(Anna Paquin) Cyclops (James Marsden), Dr. Jean Grey (Famke Jenssen) and Storm (Halle Berry) attempt to find other mutants before
Magneto gets his hands on them.

X-Men did a great job of re/introducing us to the world that Marvel comics created, it didn't take itself too seriously nor did it cater to the saturday morning crowd! Hugh Jackman rocked! I absolutely loved him as Wolverine — he couldn't have done a better job.

My one gripe with the movie is it screamed sequel, the ending was left totally open for X-Men 2 which is probably being polished off right now!

If this turns into a franchise PLEASE learn from Warner Bros. and don't go the route the chose to take Batman down!!
