Synopsis: Matt McConnahey stars as a rookie submarine captain during WWII, when Allied forces struggled to capture the Nazi's "Enigma Machine" - which would allow Americans to decode secret Nazi transmissions. A daring mission to capture a Nazi U-Boat and then steal the machine goes horribly awry. As usual.

As military movies go, I think U-571 works. The preview piqued my interest, with claustrophobic shots of men struggling to survive underewater.

Fans of military movies are usually fond of historical accuracy. U-571 delivers again. The submarine sets are cramped, dark, and leaky! The men spend anxious moments listening to depth charges exploding all around them.

The pace is brisk, and the action is top-notch. McConnahey is great as a Navy officer who is denied the captaincy of his own boat - but then must take command when the mission to capture the "Enigma Machine" falls apart.

Military movie fans will love U-571, as will fans of traditional action movies.

Besuer to keep an eye out for (gulp) Jon Bon Jovi! - He's in there somewhere, I've been told, and he is in the credits. And yet, he never popped out at me. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. The acting was all top notch (Harvey Keitel is great as an old seadog) - and Mr. Jovi's acting must have been up to par. Good for him!
