Synopsis: Set in 1950's Cold War America, this movie tells the story of Hogarth, an imaginative nine-year old boy who daydreams of alien invasions.

When Hogarth witnesses a 50-foot robot falling from the sky into a nearby lake, his mother, Annie (Jennifer
Aniston) finds this a little hard to believe. But when Hogarth finds the friendly robot, his pal Dean, a nonconformist sculptor who also runs a junkyard, offers to help hide the robot with his salvage — which the metal-eating robot begins devouring!

A government agent named Kent Mansly soon gets wind that there's a mechanical intruder of unknown (but most probably Russian) origins in the neighborhood and wants to wipe out the potential red communist threat.

However, the robot is learning to talk and turns out to be friendly, and Hogarth in turn tries to teach his new pal the ways of humans.

I love this movie and encourage adults to see it even if they don't have kids. Rarely, does this kind of sweet story come along that has so much heart. There are sweet, simple, precious scenes that will melt your heart.

For example, at one point in the movie, the giant robot nearly kills Hogarth because his
weapons werew accidentally triggered. Wracked by guilt, the Robot runs away.

In all, the story brings us to the time in life when everything was simpler and filled
with childhood naivete.
